Colorado State’s 2011 football schedule begins with a conference game and ends with the latest regular-season home game in school history.
For Air Force, the Falcons have a big trip to play at Notre Dame, which comes Oct. 8 and is one week after AFA plays at Navy.
On Sept. 3, the Rams travel to Mountain West Conference rival New Mexico. The last time CSU opened a season with a conference game was 17 years to the day, Sept. 3, 1994, with a 34-21 win at Air Force.
Air Force, riding a five-year winning streak against the Rams, this season plays at Fort Collins on Nov. 26.
The Thanksgiving week game is the the latest the two schools have met since their first-ever clash, Nov. 30, 1957, at the Academy.
The CSU regular season concludes Dec. 3 with the Border War game vs. Wyoming at Hughes Stadium. Prior to this season, the latest regular-season game ever played in Fort Collins, was on Dec. 1, 1928, against Colorado College at old Colorado Field, on the east side of campus.
Perennial powerhouse and new MWC member Boise State, featuring Heisman Trophy candidate Kellen Moore, will play Oct. 15 at CSU. Air Force plays at Boise on Oct. 22
On Sept. 10, the Rams are scheduled to wear their pumpkin-and-alfalfa uniforms for the annual Ag Day Orange Out game. The Rams host Northern Colorado for that game. The two schools, just 34 miles apart, last met in 1986, a 41-14 CSU win at Hughes Stadium. The Rams (16-0-1) have never lost in the series, which began in 1899.
CSU faces its major in-state rival — the Colorado Buffaloes — Sept. 17. Because CU is designated the home team this year, kickoff time will be determined by the network television partner from the Buffs’ new conference, the Pac-12.
