Nine students from Place Bridge Academy got to put their knowledge to the test today by assessing energy use at the Denver Firefighters Museum.

The Denver students are part of a weekly program led by Energy Service Corps, a group led by college students from the Auraria Campus that teaches younger students about energy and energy conservation.

After a tour and assessment of the museum, students were able to make five recommendations to museum staff, including changing light bulbs to compact fluorescent lights, fixing cracks around doors and buying a new stove that doesn’t have a pilot light that stays on.

“They found things we had not thought of,” Sean Binder, an Energy Service Corps volunteer said in a released statement. “The students did an amazing job.”

Representatives from the Denver Small Business Energy Program also helped the students by offering information to the museum on how to bring the students’ recommendations into practice.
