WALSENBURG, Colo.—Pieces of stones have fallen from the tower on the Huerfano (WHUR’-fuh-no) County Courthouse in Walsenburg, prompting court officials to move a trial that was scheduled to start there on Monday.
The stones broke loose on Friday, and some slid down the roof into the gutter. No injuries have been reported.
Claude W. Appel, chief judge for the district that includes Huerfano County, says the structural integrity of the courthouse will be examined before any decision is made on whether the building is safe for court staff and the public.
The canceled trial was on charges of attempted first-degree murder. Rob McCallum, a spokesman for the state court system, says it will be moved to Trinidad in neighboring Las Animas County.
