A man killed Saturday in a hit-and-run in Boulder has been identified as Ronald L. Keithline, 54.

Keithline died after being struck about 6:30 p.m. by a vehicle in the northbound merge lane of Broadway, just north of Baseline Road, said city spokeswoman Kim Kobel.

Kobel said witnesses told police that a dark-colored SUV struck Keithline, stopped briefly, then drove away. Another vehicle had swerved onto the sidewalk to avoid hitting him just 30 seconds earlier, witnesses said.

Kobel said Keithline had a history of interactions with police and was known to lie down in roadways. But Emily Keithline, the victim’s mother, said she didn’t think her son intentionally put himself in harm’s way. She said her son had physical problems related to an accident and may have fallen and been unable to get up.

Police are looking for a Toyota RAV4 or Nissan Xterra-type vehicle.
