Two young men were killed and another seriously injured this morning when their truck slammed into a 200,000-pound parked railroad car at in a dead-end street in Fort Morgan.

According to Fort Morgan police, it appears the accident occurred about 3 a.m., near Prospect Street and Railroad Avenue.

The accident was not discovered until employees of area businesses arrived for work and called police just before 6:45 a.m.

The driver of the truck has been identified as Justin Moss, 16, from Wiggins. The second passenger who died was identified as Michael Aguirre, 22, of Fort Morgan.

One of the first responding officers said it appeared at first that all three men were deceased, but then officers saw one man move.

That passenger, William Mull, 18, was conscious and speaking to ambulance workers when he was transported to the hospital.

Police believe the truck was driving south on Prospect Street from Railroad Avenue, and said in a release that it doesn’t appear the driver applied the brakes before hitting the parked railroad car.

Police also said the truck was speeding.

The railroad car was filled with fertilizer. It was parked on a side of the tracks, so the accident did not interfere with railroad traffic.

Accident reconstruction officers were on scene all morning trying to gather more information as to the cause of the accident.
