The Northern Colorado baseball team received a gem Sunday from starting pitcher Joe Willman, but the Bears were unable to top 14th-ranked Arizona, falling 2-1 in the series finale in Tucson.
Willman (0-2) pitched a complete game, the sixth of his career, allowing just two runs on 10 hits. He had six strikeouts, two shy of his career high. The Bears’ offense started quickly and faded fast, as it had only three hits — with all three coming in the first inning for a 1-0 lead.
The Bears (0-7) return for their home opener Wednesday against Colorado School of Mines.
