Four days after the wildfire began, U.S. Forest Service officials this morning announced that the Lefthand Fire — which burned 622 acres in the Roosevelt National Forest northwest of Boulder — is now 100 percent contained.
The Lefthand Fire Protection District will continue to patrol the area, and a crew of 25 firefighters will remain on scene to mop up hot spots within 200 feet of the outer edge of the fire. Officials caution that “interior smoke” will still be visible from the fire.
The Lefthand Off-Highway Vehicle Area remains closed until further notice, although Lefthand Canyon Drive is now open to the public. Officials are asking people to use caution and watch out for firefighting equipment and firefighters in the area.
