ST. PAUL, Minn.—The WCHA hockey tournament will trot out a slightly different format this weekend.

The Final Five name is the same, but now there are six teams that come to Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Western Collegiate Hockey Association postseason championship, possession of the Broadmoor Trophy, and automatic bid to the NCAA tournament will be determined over the next five games.

WCHA expansion to 12 teams this season prompted the change.

In quarterfinal games on Thursday, Bemidji State plays Minnesota Duluth and Alaska Anchorage faces Colorado College.

North Dakota and Denver secured spots in the semifinals on Friday night. The title game is on Saturday night.

Xcel Energy Center is also the host for this year’s NCAA Frozen Four in April.
