A number of students at Denver schools have started taking action to help relief efforts in Japan.
*The Japanese anime club and the UNICEF club at the Denver Center for International Studies, 574 W. Sixth Ave., and seventh graders at Rachel B. Noel Middle School, 5290 Kittredge St., are making origami cranes for children in Japan. Contact the school if you or your organization want to contribute.
* At Lowry Elementary, students, teachers and staff will be allowed to pay $2 to get a dress code waiver and wear a jersey during school on Friday.
Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross.
* Fifth graders at Southmoor Elementary, 3755 South Magnolia Way, are sponsoring a Japanese Relief Fundraiser, “Caring for Kids.”
The students have placed coin jars in each classroom, to encourage students to donate pennies and spare change. All proceeds will be donated to the “Save the Children” foundation.
*Second graders at Greenwood Elementary, 5130 Durham Court, will be selling cookies for 50 cents after school on Friday, March 18th to raise money to provide food, water and medical relief for Japan through the Red Cross.
*First graders at William B. Roberts K-8 School will be selling baked goods next week starting Monday, to all students during lunch periods.
* At Rachel B. Noel Middle School, 5290 Kittredge St., social studies classes studying the destruction in Japan are organizing a T-shirt sale to support Japan relief efforts.
Students will be selling T-shirts they designed, starting Wednesday at the school. T-shirts will be $17 for adults, and $10 for students.
Both cash and checks will be accepted. All proceeds will from this fund raiser will also go to “Save the Children” foundation.
