EAGLE, Colo.—A man suspected of fatally shooting one person and wounding three others in a Vail bar will spend more than a month in a state mental hospital to be examined.

The Vail Daily reports a judge ruled Thursday that 63-year-old Richard “Rossi” Moreau will be taken to the Colorado Institute of Mental Health in Pueblo April 8.

Moreau has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other felony charges in shootings at the Sandbar in 2009. Dr. Gary Bruce Kitching of Carbondale died after being shot three times.

Moreau’s accused of shooting two people outside after he was ushered out of the bar and another when he went back in.

Defense attorneys say they’ll present evidence that Moreau, a Vietnam veteran, has post-traumatic stress disorder.
