DENVER—Fire bans are now in effect in parts of Colorado because of the continued dry, windy weather.

Jefferson County—where a wildfire is burning on nearly 1,200 acres—has banned open fires in unincorporated areas. Smoking is also banned outdoors unless the immediate area is cleared of anything combustible.

The city of Golden, just east of the where the fire is burning, has issued a temporary fire ban.

Arapahoe County has also adopted a similar burning ban.

Denver has banned open fires and smoking—unless indoors or in a vehicle—in its mountain parks. There’s also a ban in place in Golden Gate Canyon State Park, which is near the wildfire burning in Jefferson County.

On the Eastern Plains, Cheyenne and Kiowa counties have also enacted fire bans.
