GREELEY — A Weld County District Court jury Tuesday took three hours to convict Georgia Watson of conspiracy to commit the murder of her ex-husband two years ago.
The jury came back at 3 p.m. after listening to two hours of closing arguments by attorneys and more than a week of testimony.
Watson will join her boyfriend, Cecil Joe Erb, 29, in the state Department of Corrections. Erb was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Watson faces up to 48 years in prison when she is sentenced April 22.
She was charged with conspiring to kill her former husband, Jeffrey Watson Sr., 44, from Jan. 1, 2008, to his death on Feb. 19, 2009. Erb gunned down the man that morning, then tried to flee to Wisconsin before police caught up with him in Iowa.
The next day, Georgia Watson became a suspect after telling police that Erb was headed to California for work and had sold his car earlier in the week. Police officers testified they knew differently.
After looking closer, police decided Watson had the most to gain from her ex’s death because she was the beneficiary of a $100,000 life-insurance policy on Jeffrey Watson.
