Given India’s increasingly significant world presence, it’s probably not surprising that its growing art scene is getting more international attention.
Although she left India for the United States in 1978 and now lives in Littleton, Sangeeta Reddy returns to her native country for exhibitions, including one at the Shrishti Gallery in Hyderabad in 2010.
The good news for Denver- area residents is that they don’t have to travel all the way to India to see her work. She regularly takes part in local shows, including her latest, a small solo offering at William Havu Gallery, 1040 Cherokee St.
There is nothing especially groundbreaking about Reedy’s gentle abstractions, but she displays meticulous technique and an innate feel for color, texture and mark-making. Especially strong are her six 25-by-32 1/4-inch mixed-media collages, in which she begins with a monotype and adroitly builds from there.
Reddy’s exhibition continues through April 9. Free. 303-893-2360 or . Kyle MacMillan
