Last night at the , proved that bands don’t need to sell out to, well—sell out. The Florida rock band has been selling out huge venues across the country for years and they have been doing so almost completely absent of radio play. They have found success in more youthful avenues like MTV2 and the X Games, and although you might catch a rare spin or two on local rock stations, you’re more apt to hear their music blasting through the speakers of a Hot Topic store.
But don’t let the stigma cloud your judgment — ADTR is not just a band for skinny jean hipsters.
Their style of music combines melodic, poppy hooks, aggressive metal vocals, gigantic breakdowns and clever placements of samples peppered throughout. Their recorded sound is huge and the live show matched.
Preceeded by , and , ADTR’s 75 minute set was a non-stop party and the Fillmore crowd was, for lack of a better word, insane. Song after song was a hit single from their extensive Victory Records catalog, including “I’m Made of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made of?” “Have Faith in Me,” “The Plot to Bomb the Panhandle,” their latest “All I Want,” and “The Downfall of Us All” that ended the show.
The music could have stood on its own, but ADTR added to the spectacle in confetti explosions, a balloon drop and front man Jeremy McKinnon’s Wayne-Coyne-esque walk across the crowd in a giant bubble.
The only flaw to last nightap show was difference in sound quality throughout the venue; the vocals were drowned out in the back of the auditorium and the overall sound was muddled, but closer to the stage there was little to fault.
A Day To Remember Announced that they will return to Denver this summer on Warped Tour.
