A 53-year-old man accused of pulling a handgun during a dispute over a grocery-store parking spot was arrested Monday in Aurora.
Robert Felton Lindsay, Jr., is suspected of unlawful display of a weapon, a misdemeanor, said Sgt. Cassidee Carlson, an Aurora Police Department spokeswoman.
Lindsay, who holds a concealed weapon permit, told investigators that he was “waiting on a parking spot” in a grocery store lot at 15250 E. Mississippi Ave. on March 7 when another vehicle came down the lane in the wrong direction and pulled in front of him.
Lindsay said he motioned for the driver of the other vehicle, about 3-feet away from his van, to “back up” but the driver “refused to move.”
Lindsay told police when he got out of his van, the other driver drove toward him.
“He felt threatened and pulled out his small hand gun and held it to his side,” according to the police report.
Lindsay told police that the gun, a Taurus .380 caliber, was held “down to his side and pointed…in the general direction” of the woman’s vehicle.
The other driver’s story differed, however. She told police she did not drive toward Lindsay after he got out of his van, and that “the gun pointed at her.”
The victim, who is 44, called police the day of the incident and an officer responded to the store, but it was “cleared” at the time. No shots were fired and no one was injured. There was no arrest.
But Det. Steven Crowe reviewed the incident on March 11, after the woman complained about the situation to city officials, including city council members, Carlson said.
The detective presented the case to a municipal judge who signed a municipal warrant for unlawful display of weapon against Lindsay. Lindsay turned himself in to police on Monday.
The victim has told police that she’s had trouble eating and sleeping since the incident.
Police investigators have reviewed surveillance video from the parking lot but “did not see anything that appeared to match the incident,” the report said.
Lindsay is free on a $1,000 bond.
