What does the average fan think of the Rockies’ three young stars — Troy Tulowitzki, Carlos Gonzalez and Ubaldo Jimenez?
Well, fans who put their money down trying to win fantasy baseball leagues throughout the country think very highly of the trio.
The cbs.sportsline.com fantasy draft headquarters has a tool that lists the average draft position of every player from the thousands of drafts held nationwide via their host site. All three Rockies are highly valued.
Tulowitzki is the consensus No. 4 overall pick in cbs.sportsline.com fantasy drafts, a recognition not only of his offensive talents, but the scarcity of such skills at a shallow position, shortstop. (Tulo is the second shortstop on the list behind Florida’s Hanley Ramirez, the consensus No. 2 overall pick.)
CarGo, meanwhile, is the consensus No. 6 overall pick, and the first outfielder, among fantasy league general managers. That’s a testament not only to his overall game but his age, 25, and the belief he might be even better in 2011 than he was a year ago during his breakout season.
Jimenez ranks No. 40 overall and is the seventh most valued fantasy pitcher. Pitchers, it should be noted, are usually drafted lower than position players in the early rounds of fantasy drafts.
