CHEYENNE, Wyo.—High winds have forced the closure of Interstate 25 to lightweight, high-profile vehicles from Cheyenne south to the Colorado border.
A truck was blown over on the interstate Thursday afternoon as winds gusted to nearly 60 mph. The Wyoming Department of Transportation says forecasts call for increasing winds until midnight.
The interstate remains open to passenger vehicles and trucks with heavier loads. It will reopen to lightweight and high-profile vehicles when gusts diminish for at least 30 minutes.
Several highways in Wyoming have been under a “no light trailer” advisory since Wednesday when wind gusts began to exceed 45 mph.
A windstorm in mid-February caused at least six truck blow-over crashes in southeastern Wyoming. The driver of one truck was killed.
