GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The mayor pro tem of Grand Junction has resigned effective immediately, citing personal reasons.

The city manager’s office says City Councilwoman Bonnie Beckstein submitted her letter of resignation Friday morning. In the letter, Beckstein says she is stepping down because of “significant changes” in her personal life. She didn’t give details and asked that her privacy be respected.

Beckstein was elected to the City Council in 2005 and was re-elected in 2009 for a term that would have expired in 2013.

The City Council plans to meet next week to discuss the appointment of a new member and a mayor pro tem.
