Police in Edgewater arrested a man they believe tried to abduct an 8-year-old girl after the man returned to the scene looking for a cellphone he dropped as he ran out.
Steve Davis, a spokesman for the police department said the incident happened at about 7:40 p.m. Friday at the King Soopers on the 1700 block of Sheridan Boulevard.
The girl was inside the store with an adult relative who watched as the man tried to pull the girl away. The relative intervened and the man fled, but he then returned two hours later looking for his cellphone.
Security guards recognized the man and called police, who arrested him.
The suspect presented an identification that identified him as Abraham Rodriguez-Rodriguez, 37, but police believe the man may be hiding his real identity, and may be in the country illegally.
He is currently being held on suspicion of attempted second degree kidnapping, but may face further charges.
