PHOENIX — Lawyers for an Arizona death row inmate are asking the U.S. Supreme Court and federal appeals court to stay his scheduled execution.

A state clemency board has decided against intervening in the case of Daniel Wayne Cook, who was convicted of raping, torturing and strangling two men in 1987.

Cook is scheduled to die by injection Tuesday.
