Avalanche center Paul Stastny won’t play in Colorado’s five remaining games because of a stress fracture in his leg discovered in a weekend examination, the team announced tonight.

“The decision was made to shut him down for the rest of the regular season,” Dr. Andrew Parker, the Avalanche’s physician, said in a team statement.

Stastny played 18 minutes in the 4-3 shootout victory over the Phoenix Coyotes Friday night. He will finish with 22 goals and 35 assists in 74 games this season for Colorado. His 57 points are second to Matt Duchene’s 62 going into tonight’s game against the Calgary Flames at the Pepsi Center.
