A jury today found Winter Park abortion protester Jo Ann Scott guilty of violating Colorado’s so-called “bubble law,” a rule aimed at giving women clear passage into abortion clinics and other health care facilities.

Scott, 59, was arrested April 2, 2010 outside a Planned Parenthood clinic on 38th Avenue in Denver after she approached a woman trying to enter the facility.

After a day-long trial and an hour of deliberation, the jury found Scott guilty of the Class 3 misdemeanors of engaging in prohibited activities near a health care facility and harassment.

Scott could face up to six months in the Denver County Jail. She is scheduled to be sentenced on June 6.

The bubble law prohibits protesters from coming within 8 feet of a person who is within 100 feet of entering a clinic or other health-care facility. The rule does not prevent protesters from holding signs or yelling their protestations.
