A 24-year-old Northglenn woman faces felony child abuse and assault charges, on top of a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, after allegedly crashing into two parked cars in the 4500 block of Clay Street on Thursday.

Prosecutors said Valencia Maria Lucero ran away from the accident. One of the two children in her car, a 6-year-old girl, was badly injured.

Police dogs found Lucero sometime later, the Denver district attorney’s office said, in announcing the charges.

The 6-year-old was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries.

This is Lucero’s second drunken-driving charge. She agreed to plead guilty to driving while abilities impaired, after initially being charged with driving under the influence, in 2006. The Denver Post
