The wait for Superman is nearly over.

The superhero — not the one in tights, but Geoffrey Canada, the one known for rescuing children from bad schools — will be the featured speaker at the fifth “Success for Every Student” conference Saturday.

The conference, sponsored by parents in the Cherry Creek School District along with local businesses and community organizations, will celebrate student accomplishments and look at ways to bridge the achievement gap for students at risk for being left behind.

The Prairie Middle School and Overland High School parents who organized the conference say they hope Canada’s message will highlight the importance of public education in a child’s life.

Canada , president of the Harlem Children’s Zone, stood out as a voice of hope for public schools in the documentary “Waiting for Superman.” The award-winning, controversial film profiles five kids struggling to beat the odds and get a good education in order to improve their lives.

The conference takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 16 at Overland High School, 12400 E. Jewell Ave., Aurora. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for middle and high-school students and $3 for elementary school children.

Tickets can be purchased at Prairie Middle School or at .
