BOSTON — Clay Buchholz, 26, and the Red Sox agreed to a four-year deal Sunday that keeps the all-star pitcher under contract with Boston through at least 2015. The deal includes club options for 2016 and 2017.

Buchholz ranked second in the American League with a 2.33 ERA last year.

Dodgers recall Ely

SAN DIEGO — The Dodgers called up right-hander John Ely to start Sunday’s game against the Padres and placed rookie catcher Hector Gimenez (right knee inflammation) on the 15-day disabled list.

• Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal took the day off because of a sore left wrist.

Aybar goes on DL

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Angels placed shortstop Erick Aybar (left strained oblique muscle) on the 15-day DL and recalled reliever Francisco Rodriguez from Triple-A.

• Giants center fieler Andres Torres, who has a mild left Achilles strain, will remain in a boot for a “couple of days” before being re-evaluated, manager Bruce Bochy said.

• San Diego recalled left-hander Wade LeBlanc from Triple-A Tucson and reinstated utility man Eric Patterson from the 15-day disabled list.

• Cubs right fielder Kosuke Fukudome left the game against the Brewers because of a sore hamstring. He is day to day.

• Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche left in the 11th inning against the Mets because of a tight left groin muscle.

• Blue Jays center fielder Rajai Davis left in the fifth inning against the Angels because of right ankle irritation from a previous injury.
