Members of hip-hop nation got their drink on and their smoke on at on Saturday night where and headlined a spirited (if unorganized) show.
In a move that either represented conservation-minded promoters or a simple lack of planning, tickets sold and distributed at the will call window actually bore the name of a previous event a week before. But the happy, hazy weekend vibe that settled on this crowd prevented them from minding that, or the long entrance lines, or the delayed show start.
Openers were MTHDS, or Music That Heightens Different Senses, and Denver’s DJ Cavem.Moetavation, who warmed up the stage with an old school hip-hop set punctuated by selections from the likes of Black Sheep and Digable Planets, and which seemed like just want the doctor ordered.
It would be easy for Redman and Method Man (the latter whose biggest claim to fame comes from being part of the seminal hip-hop act Wu-Tang Clan) to rest on their laurels and essentially perform a greatest hits show. But
Saturday’s appearance, which featured older tracks along with selections from more recent releases such as Method Man’s 2009 album “Blackout! Vol. 2,” was a reminder that these two MCs still come with great
chemistry and presence, and have remained busy and vibrant in the years since Wu-Tang’s mid-’90s peak.
