Q: Qwest, my broadband provider, has offered MSN e-mail and Web- portal services at no charge until now. I must choose to either change to Qwest or continue with MSN at a monthly rate. What should I consider when making this choice?

A: The partnership between Qwest and Microsoft ends June 30, meaning Qwest broadband subscribers will have to pay a fee to continue using MSN Premium. If you primarily use the MSN portal for news and e-mail, I would strongly consider switching to the free portal rather than paying the MSN Premium “economy” rate of $9.95 a year for Qwest broadband customers. The most attractive feature of MSN Premium is the McAfee anti-virus and Webroot Spy Sweeper software that’s only included with the regular plan, which costs $59.95 a year. Even so, you can buy McAfee and Webroot separately. If you choose not to pay for MSN Premium, you can continue to access your MSN e-mail through .
