Claim: Denver mayoral candidate Chris Romer “expanded AP classes at a struggling school” and brought “more calculus and AP biology into a low-performing high school.”

Facts: In a statement, the Romer campaign said, “Chris was proud to help bring the National Math and Science Initiative’s Advanced Placement Training and Incentive Program to Colorado high schools, including (Abraham) Lincoln High School in Denver. He worked with the Colorado Legacy Foundation to secure new grants that allowed Lincoln High School and other schools to offer more students AP Classes, especially in math and science.”
Lincoln’s principal says that is not exactly what happened.
“Technically he did not expand AP classes at Lincoln,” said Antonio Esquibel, principal at Abraham Lincoln High School. “We did get a little funding to get teachers training and refocus our strategies. But we were already increasing our AP enrollment.”
