PHOENIX—Authorities say a Colorado man died while participating in the Pat Tillman Foundation’s annual run in Tempe.
Tempe Fire Department paramedics say 55-year-old Darryl Stephens suffered a massive heart attack during Saturday’s event.
They say he was taken to a Tempe-area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Stephen’s hometown in Colorado wasn’t immediately available Tuesday.
Pat’s Run honors the legacy of Pat Tillman, who played football at Arizona State University and for the Arizona Cardinals. He was killed in action in 2004 while serving with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.
The annual run raises money to support programs created to pay tribute to his commitment to leadership and service.
The Arizona Republic says about 28,000 people participated in Saturday’s run.
