On this date in 1999, 12 Columbine High School students and a teacher were slain in an attack on the Jefferson County school. Columbine will be closed to students today. A memorial to the victims is open to the public in Clement Park, west of the school.
Killed were Cassie Bernall, Steven Curnow, Corey DePooter, Kelly Fleming, Matthew Kechter, Daniel Mauser, Daniel Rohrbough, Rachel Scott, Isaiah Shoels, John Tomlin, Lauren Townsend, Kyle Velasquez and teacher Dave Sanders.
