Macy’s is taking a page from the playbook of other big retailers by having top fashion talents create exclusive collections for the store. British designer Matthew Williamson’s capsule line of sportswear, dresses, below, and scarves just hit selected locations, including Cherry Creek and Park Meadows. Williamson, who is known for his bold prints and bohemian chic aesthetic, brings that feeling to the limited edition Macy’s line. “His personality is evident in the designs,” says Nicole Fischelis, fashion director of Macy’s. “We didn’t want a watered-down version of the runway collection.” Fischelis says the line — and a fall collection to come from Karl Lagerfeld — is part of Macy’s strategy to appeal to the “new millennium” customer, typically 18-30 years old, but more defined by her fashion sense than her age. Other Macy’s contemporary additions of late have been The Bar III brand for men and women and Rachel Bilson’s “Edie Rose Home” tabletop collection. Photo provided by Macy’s
