CONTINUING

Here are selected mini-reviews of films in theaters, listed alphabetically.

“Arthur”Comedy PG-13. Russell Brand is a poor little rich boy using booze as a shield against a life of alienation. (Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune) 109 minutes

“Atlas Shrugged”Drama PG-13. It’s 2016 in an alternative retro-future where everything has the look of mid-20th-century modern, the Internet apparently was never invented, and trains are how goods get from coast to coast. Society is on the verge of collapse because of the jackals of conformity and mediocrity who are baying at the heels of creative, wealth-producing entrepreneurs. (Cary Darling, McClatchy Newspapers) 102 minutes

“The Conspirator”Historical drama PG-13. Built on strong performances from an able cast — especially Robin Wright and James McAvoy — Robert Redford’s film about rushed and — arguably rough — justice dealt Mary Surratt, proprietor of the boarding house where John Wilkes Booth and his confederates plotted to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln, is quality drama with a capital Q. (Kennedy) 122 minutes

“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules”Comedy PG. The anti-hero of the series is Greg Heffley, a 12-year-old who sees his life as an unending series of humiliations. (Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune) 96 minutes

“Hanna”Action PG-13. Saoirse Ronan is ferocious and touching as the titular heroine in this fairy tale of innocence and treachery. (Kennedy) 105 minutes

“Hop”Bunny tale PG. “Hop” has one of the cutest bunnies you’ll ever see and plenty of other eye candy among its computer-generated visuals. (David Germain, Associated Press) 94 minutes

“I Am”DocumentaryDirector Tom Shadyac decides to sit down with important thinkers in order to judge everyone else’s values. (Wesley Morris, Boston Globe) 79 minutes

“Insidious”Horror PG-13. The spookiest and most entertaining horror flick playing right now. (Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel) 102 minutes

“Jane Eyre”Literary romance PG-13. Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre” with Mia Wasikowska as Jane and Michael Fassbender as the storm warning known as Edward Rochester. (Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune) 121 minutes

“Limitless”Contemporary sci-fi PG-13. Eddie Morra’s adventures begin after he is given a pill that puts his entire brain online. (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times) 105 minutes

“Of Gods and Men”Religious drama. PG-13. Based on the true story of nine Roman Catholic monks whose lives were disrupted by an outbreak of Islamic extremist violence near their monastery in Algeria. (Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle) 122 minutes

“Paul”Alien comedy R. A couple of laughs and a sprinkle of chuckles can’t save this geeks-meets-alien road- chase movie from being a close encounter of the middling kind. (Kennedy) 104 minutes

“Potiche”Comedy R. The word potiche translates into English as “trophy wife.” Catherine Deneuve is the sheltered wife of a factory owner (Fabrice Luchini), an umbrella maker who is in the midst of a labor dispute with his workers. When he is kidnapped she has to run the factory and things change. (Ty Burr, Boston Globe) 103 minutes

“Rio”Animated comedy G. Domesticated Blu, a cerulean macaw, and free-spirited bird Jewel must travel to Rio to mate. (Christy Lemire, The Associated Press) 96 minutes

“Scream 4″Meta horror sequel R.Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson reunite for a sequel that pays homage to their 1996 original about a masked pop-culture-savvy killer but doesn’t come close to besting it. (Kennedy) 112 minutes

“Soul Surfer”Inspirational surfing PG. In this Christian-leavened family film, local light AnnaSophia Robb portrays pro surfer Bethany Hamilton, who in 2003 lost her arm in a shark attack and lived to write about it and, more, compete again. (Kennedy) 106 minutes

“Source Code”Thriller PG-13. Afghanistan war hero Capt. Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) is part of a clandestine operation that puts him on a doomed train right before it explodes in order to figure out who among the strangers is the terrorist. (Kennedy) 93 minutes

“Win Win”Dramedy R. Tom McCarthy’s third film is a charmer. Paul Giamatti is Mike Flaherty, an elder-law attorney and high-school wrestling coach who wades into a moral muddle when he becomes guardian of a client and then offers the guy’s grandson a home and a spot on his low-talent team. (Kennedy) 104 minutes

“Your Highness”Comedy R. James Franco plays the dashing, quest-happy heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Mourn. His fiance is kidnapped on her wedding day. Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel) 102 minutes
