A 32-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after choking his ex-wife, telling police to shoot him and throwing a TV stand at the officers, police said.

Police went to a southeast Colorado Springs apartment in the 2000 block of Carmel Drive just after 8 p.m. to find a hostile Tiran Charles in a bedroom with his 3-year-old son. Charles was making “homicidal and suicidal statements,” police said.

After Charles threw the TV stand and demanded that police shoot him, an officer shot Charles with a Taser, but it had no effect. The officer reloaded and shot the Taser again. This time it did the job and Charles was taken into custody.

After the commotion, police learned that a 5-year-old was hiding behind the couch and Charles had apparently choked his ex-wife until she passed out.
