The operators of Antoine du Chez salons in the metro area are embroiled in a case of split ends that has landed in Arapahoe County court.
Nick Anderson, owner of the Antoine du Chez on County Line Road, also owns the exclusive rights to the trade name Antoine du Chez, and granted licensing agreements to the Antoine du Chez in Cherry Creek and the one that was on Belleview Avenue.
MK Bolling operated the Belleview store, but when the lease expired Dec. 31, she opted to move to a development on Fiddler’s Green Circle in Greenwood Village and to rename it Aneau Salon & Spa.
Bolling also sold hundreds of discount coupons for services at Aneau that, in some cases, led customers to believe they could redeem the coupons at any of the three Antoine du Chez locations.
Additionally, the website touted a connection to the Antoine du Chez brand, which made Anderson’s hair stand on end. Neither the Cherry Creek nor the County Line Road salons agreed to the discount offers, yet customers were walking in the door armed with the coupons.
After several rounds of back and forth between Anderson and Bolling, Anderson filed a lawsuit listing several complaints and alleged violations of the licensing agreement.
Last week, Anderson and Cherry Creek salon owners Christy Fitzpatrick and Melanie Blessant sent an e-mail to their customer base that in essence divorced any association with the salon at the former Belleview location.
Anderson, Bolling and their attorneys met Thursday in an effort to avoid court.
“I told her I don’t want any money, just please stop doing what she’s doing,” Anderson said. “I told her I’m not asking her to do anything but walk away.” Anderson said Bolling has 20 days to respond.
Bolling’s attorney Kelly Elefant, who represented the salon owner in her lease on the Fiddler’s Green space, said her client prefers to settle this case and avoid litigation.
“We want to rise above all this, but sometimes people just don’t get along,” Elefant said.
