Winter weather is expected to continue in the mountains through Sunday, with dry, windy weather along southern Colorado. Denver, meanwhile, will get another chance of rain.

A “red flag” critical fire danger warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday in southern El Paso, Pueblo, Eastern Huerfano, western Las Animas Yuma, and Kit Carson counties, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters expect wind gusts up to 45 mph and humidity between 10 and 20 percent, through the early evening.

“Rapid rates of growth and spread will be possible with any fires,” forecasters said in a statement.

In the mountains, a winter storm warning will be in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday for the areas of the Eastern Sawatch Mountains and all of Lake County.

Those areas can expect about 10 to 20 inches of snow over the weekend.

Denver reached a high temperature of 63 degrees today. Tonight, temperatures will be in the low 30s, but will climb back around 50 degrees tomorrow.

The metro region has a 20 percent chance of showers Saturday afternoon, and a 50 percent chance Saturday night and Sunday.
