HARTSEL, Colo.—Water will be released over four or five weeks from Antero Reservoir near Hartsel as a precaution to reduce water pressure and seepage.

The Denver Post reports the releases will start the week of May 2, lowering the water by about 2 feet. Denver Water owns and operates the dam on the South Platte River and says it has been seeping for a while.

Denver Water engineers say they need to study the reservoir to determine the extent of the damage.

Antero, about 100 miles southwest of Denver, was built in 1909 and sits at about at 8,900 feet in elevation.
