Jonathan Castroviejo of Spain edged Taylor Phinney of Boulder in the opening prologue stage of the Tour de Romandie on Tuesday in Marigny, Switzerland.
Castroviejo covered the 1.86-mile course in 3 minutes, 40.42 seconds, 0.27 seconds faster than the 20-year-old Phinney. David Millar of Britain and the Boulder-based Garmin-Cervelo team was fifth in 3:42.52.
DU golfers stay in lead.
The University of Denver men’s golf team remained in the lead after the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals on the Robert Jones Golf Trail in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
DU is at 3-under-par 573, four strokes ahead of North Texas and Louisiana-Monroe. The Pioneers’ Troy Anderson is in a tie for sixth place at 2-under 142, five strokes behind the leader, Carlos Ortiz of North Texas.
• The University of Colorado men’s team was in 10th place at the Big 12 Championships at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan., at 51-over 891, 46 strokes behind the leader, No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State. Luke Symons was the top Buffs individual, in a tie for 23rd at 9-over 219, 12 strokes behind the leader, Morgan Hoffman of OSU.
