The 60-year-old man suspected of shooting a woman in the face during a robbery in her Lakewood home Saturday was found dead in a motel Tuesday. Police said it appeared he shot himself.
Police found the body of Melvin “Catfish” Nelson in a motel room near Interstate 25 and West 38th Avenue, according to a news release from the Lakewood Police Department.
SWAT officers entered the room after several attempts to contact Nelson and ask him to surrender peacefully.
Nelson is accused of robbing the Lakewood woman at gunpoint in her home in the 100 block of South Ammons Street before he shot her and ran from the residence. Police say the woman knew Nelson. There are no other suspects in this case, police said. The Denver Post
