Getting your player ready...

PRIME POSITION

Many teams in a rush.

No position gets more love in any draft than quarterback, but the guys who tackle the golden guys aren’t far behind. In what has become largely a pass-first league for some teams, the pass rushers were the players in high demand.

Seven defensive ends or 3-4 outside linebackers were selected in the first round, led by Missouri’s Aldon Smith, who went to San Francisco with the No. 7 pick.

MOST PUZZLING

Ravens take unintentional pass.

The Ravens are usually the team with all of the loose ends tied up on draft day, but they had some difficulty getting their act together when it was time to make the 26th pick of the opening round.

Baltimore didn’t make a decision — trade or make a pick — in time, so had to pass. The Chiefs quickly jumped in to take Pitt wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin.

The Ravens then got in their pick, at 27th, grabbing Colorado cornerback Jimmy Smith.

WHO’S LEFT

Plenty of D-linemen remain.

UCLA linebacker Akeem Ayers, above, and Notre Dame tight end Kyle Rudolph are two of the highest-rated players remaining, as is Clemson’s Da’Quan Bowers, who plummeted out of the first round because of concerns over his right knee. Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett is also available, as is TCU QB Andy Dalton. There is a chance Colorado CB Jalil Brown could hear his name called today, as could Thomas Jefferson graduate Pierre Allen, a Nebraska defensive end.
