WETMORE, Colo.—A wildfire in southern Colorado has forced evacuations in a subdivision near the town of Wetmore.

KRDO-TV reports that a wildfire started by lightning Friday afternoon in the San Isabel National Forest has grown from 25 acres to about 100 acres. The Forest Service says the fire is burning in a steep, remote area of Custer County, about 120 miles south of Denver.

It’s not clear how many people are affected by the evacuations. The Wetmore Community Center is being opened to evacuees.

The sheriff’s office has closed Colorado 96 in the area.

Forest Service officials say a helicopter and air tanker are being used to help fight the fire.
