NEW YORK — A man about to start his second trial in the 2005 samurai-sword slaying of his sleeping stepfather has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Prosecutors say Zachary Gibian, 24, will be sentenced this month to 25 years in prison.

Gibian had been convicted of nearly beheading Scott Nager as he slept on a couch at a home in Hauppauge, N.Y. But the state’s highest court found errors and ordered a new trial.
