City of Boulder officials are encouraging leaders at the University of Colorado to eliminate annual parking permits for students and employees, arguing that the change would compel more people to bus, carpool or bike to the campus.

In a 16-page document, city officials have responded to the university’s master plan. They commended the school for the sustainable efforts embedded in the long-term plan but encouraged CU — as it grows over the next decade — to take extra steps to limit the number of people driving alone to the campus.

By eliminating annual parking passes, more students and employees would find alternative ways to get to the campus, said Martha Roskowski of Go Boulder, the city’s alternative transportation program.
