Police are looking for a robber who bumps victims’ cars with his and then steals purses at the accident scene before fleeing.

The “bump and run” robber has struck several times recently in the metro area, including an April 26 incident in south Jefferson County, according to a media release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said a woman was leaving a Target store last week when a man driving a late-model, black Acura followed her. The woman stopped at a stop-sign and the Acura rear-ended her car.

The victim got out of her car and the man got out of the Acura to check damage, which was minimal.

As the woman got back into her car the robber “pushed her out of the way, reached into her car and took her purse,” the sheriff’s office said. After a brief struggle the man jumped back into the Acura and drove off.

A female passenger in the Acura never got out of the car.

“Similar robberies have been reported in the metro area,” the sheriff’s office said.

The robber is described as a black man, about six-feet tall and 230 pounds, and bald or nearly bald. He was wearing a dark-colored leather jacket the day of the incident.

Anyone with information on a possible suspect or similar robberies is asked to call the sheriff’s office tipline at 303 271-5612.
