SAN FRANCISCO — Clayton Mortensen joined the Rockies here today and is expected to start Saturday in place of Esmil Rogers.
Mortensen pitched well in a relief role for Colorado earlier this season and threw effectively in his most recent Triple-A start for Colorado Springs.
It’s unclear what the team’s corresponding move will be. But Rogers has been dealing with slight arm soreness. He last started April 25 in Chicago and did not pitch well out of the bullpen last Sunday in relief of Ubaldo Jimenez.
Mortensen, who was acquired over the winter from Oakland, has impressed the Rockies with his sinking fastball.
