NEW YORK — The Mets placed right- hander Chris Young on the disabled list because of shoulder tightness Sunday.

The team also transferred Johan Santana to the 60-day DL to free up space on the 40-man roster. Santana has been rehabbing in Florida after shoulder surgery last September.

Young (1-0, 1.87 ERA) was scheduled to start Saturday night against the Dodgers but had trouble warming up before the game. Young had an MRI on his shoulder Sunday morning and the team decided to put him on the disabled list, retroactive to May 2.

The Mets selected the contract of left-hander Pat Misch from Triple-A Buffalo to take Young’s place.

Liriano’s next start pushed back

BOSTON — Minnesota left-hander Francisco Liriano will wait another day to follow up his no-hitter, having his next start pushed back because of flu symptoms and a sore throat.

Liriano pitched a no-hitter against the White Sox on Tuesday.

Footnotes.

• The Phillies placed catcher Carlos Ruiz on the DL retroactive to April 28 because of back inflammation.

• The Red Sox placed shortstop Marco Scutaro on the 15-day DL with a strained left oblique muscle and recalled prospect Jose Iglesias from Triple-A Pawtucket.

• Angels first baseman Kendrys Morales, who broke his left ankle last May while celebrating his game-ending grand slam against Seattle, is going to Vail to see a specialist for a second opinion.

• The Rays recalled right-hander Rob Delaney from Triple-A Durham and optioned Brandon Guyer, who homered in his first major-league at-bat Friday, to the same minor- league club.

• Mariners right-hander Shawn Kelley, coming back from right elbow tendon transplant surgery, attempted a simulated game but was stopped after one of two planned innings. He threw 15 pitches. “We decided it was enough,” manager Eric Wedge said. “I think he’s fine.”
