Skydiver Brady Kane died Saturday when he hit the ground too hard as he attempted to make a high-speed “swooping” landing after diving from a plane with other skydivers, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s office.

Fellow skydivers told investigators Kane, 27, was an experienced skydiver with instructor ratings, who had made well over 5,000 dives, according to a police statement.

Kane was among a number of skydivers jumping at the Fort Morgan Airport. Kane was alive but gravely injured when deputies, medics and firefighters arrived at the scene after 3:44 p.m.

Fellow skydivers and first responders made unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate the Erie resident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses and friends told Morgan County deputies that Kane apparently attempted a high speed “swooping” landing but came in too low and hit the ground hard.

It was his second jump of the day. There is no indication that equipment he used was a factor in the accident, according to the statement.
