The NCAA men’s golf “Colorado” regional will be held at Colorado National Golf Club in Erie from May 19-21, one of six regionals in the country.
Twelve teams, including Colorado State and the University of Denver, will join Oklahoma State, the nation’s top-ranked team. CNGC will play 7,753 yards and par-72 for this tournament, the first NCAA event ever to be held at the course that is the home facility for the University of Colorado men’s and women’s teams.
Host Colorado did not qualify. Also in the field will be 10 golfers from nonparticipating teams, including Wyoming’s top player, Gabe Maier.
The top five teams out of each of six regionals plus the top individual not on one of those top five schools will advance to the national finals, May 31-June 5, in Stillwater, Okla.
The tournament is open and free to the public.
Three area teams make NCAA softball tournament.
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams Regis, Colorado Mines and Metro State will play in the NCAA Division II softball tournament.
Two Central regionals will take place May 13-15. The winners will advance to face each other in a best-of- three series May 20-21.
Regis (33-22) received an automatic bid after winning the RMAC Tournament championship last Saturday. The Rangers, who are making their fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, will face host school and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament champion Augustana College (45-8).
Colorado Mines (36-22) is making its second appearance in the national tournament and will face Minnesota-Duluth (31-15). The Orediggers will compete at Augustana College.
The second host school, Minnesota State (48-12), will host Metro State (34-16). The Roadrunners are playing in their third consecutive NCAA Tournament.
Eagles blow lead, forced to play Game 7.
The Colorado Eagles surrendered a two-goal lead to Rapid City and fell 3-2 in Game 6 of the Central Hockey League’s Turner Conference Finals in Loveland. The Eagles head to South Dakota for the decisive Game 7 on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. The winner will face Bossier- Shreveport for the Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup.
CU hires soccer assistant.
Colorado women’s soccer coach Bill Hempen announced the addition of Chris Gnehm, a former assistant coach at Florida Atlantic University, to his staff.
