The National Ski Areas Association announced that U.S. ski areas tallied 60.1 million skier visits in the 2010-11 ski season, the second- highest visitation total ever.

With snowfall up 27 percent at U.S. ski areas — the highest recorded in the past 20 years — visitation climbed with a longer, snowier season. It was the second time the ski industry broke the 60 million-visit threshold and marks a 0.6 percent increase over last season and a 4.1 percent increase over the 10-year average. Rocky Mountain resorts posted a 1.7 percent increase in visits over last season.
