DENVER—The Colorado board of education is ready to officially appoint the state’s new education commissioner.

The board says it plans to name the sole finalist for the job—Robert Hammond—to the post during its meeting on Wednesday.

Hammond has been filling in as commissioner since December after commissioner Dwight Jones left to head the Las Vegas school system.

The board announced two finalists on April 21, but state law requires that at least two weeks pass before they make an official appointment. Last week, the board said that Hammond was the sole finalist.

He’s previously served as the chief operations officer for the Boulder Valley School District.
