DENVER—The Colorado Agricultural Statistics Service is forecasting a winter wheat harvest of 64.5 million bushels this year in Colorado.
That’s below the 10-year average of 67 million bushels. It’s also 39 percent lower than the almost 106 million bushels produced last year, when there was a record yield of 45 bushels an acre.
The 2011 crop was planted under dry conditions and has endured a relatively dry winter. Agriculture officials say more moisture and favorable temperatures in May and June could help production.
